The others never really intended joe to have a life, for them joe was just a bio mass that they needed to deliver to their end cause. So joe is a lonely protagonist in this blog. The others built a cover up for man that was fundamentally indirect and social, er or death by social in consequence.

When joe meets Jane early in life she is seen as a very jealous female of the others, created to delude him of any life that he could possibly ever have with a real human female. She just breaks his heart even marrys him later on in life only to destroy him further, cause more physical harm than ever possible.

Jane is the others. She kills. Joe only stays in love with her, out of conscience or because he is afraid of the others.
